New Horizon

Summit's new Horizon Red Ale, a whole lot of awesome. The flavor is similar to Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Petey and I enjoyed this alcoholic hoppy snack after riding Murphy today. Check your local boozemart for a 6'er.

Ride and Brew and Grill

Mikey

Last night a few of the MORBID crew rolled up to Murphy to do a little riding. I got there a little earlier than the rest and did a couple of the easy loops and the intermediate once. Then Mikey showed up and we knocked out a full loop before Kris arrived. Mike cracked open a beer and we hung out in the lot waiting for Kris to change out of his fancy pants work duds.

We slowly rolled out for another lap on an awesome night. At marker 61 we saw the crew putting in the posts for the feature that is going in. I am 99% sure I am going to break something out there this summer...hopefully it is the bike and not me.

After the loop we got down to business. Cracked open a few of KBC's finest and started up the grill....uh oh. Mikey ran out of gas. After shaming him into going to Target to get more we were back in business just in time for the trail workers to come out and have a beer and brat or two. We stuck around until sundown and then called it a nice long day. See you on the trail...or parking lot!

“Night” Riding Murphy-Hanrahan

MikeyB: Sunrise is 7:36 AM’ish these days. Park opens @ 5am. This is the only way we will be able to get a “night” ride in at Murphy since the gates close at sunset.
Scott: Are you crazy? Keep me posted.
Pete: I am totally in. Do we drink before? I am confused…

And so it began. Up at 4 a.m with just a few grumbles to Laura as I got out of bed. Loaded the bike and gear and was in the car by 4:20. The forty minute trip to Savage, Mn turned into the one hour forty minute trip as my sense of direction is completely off once I head south of the cities and I couldn’t find the road to the trail head. Arriving at the trail head I meet up with Pete and MikeyB. Get the lights up and running and there is still plenty of darkness as we head off for a ten mile jaunt. The wind chills you to the bone as we all find our groove with only the occasional “branch, bridge, rock!” to break the silence. Three miles in and I’m hurting, my stomach is in knots and I pull over and out goes the blueberry muffin I ate in the car. Much better. Back in the saddle we continue our way along the trail and watch as the sunrises. The last few miles the legs start to complain about the time but they hold out and we make it back to the parking lot for beers and coffee.

Drinks consumed:
Peppermint Schnapps on the trail
One pint of Boddingtons Pub Ale
One bottle New Glarus Totally Naked
One mug of coffee and Irish whisky

Murphy Fall Day

Location: Murphy-Hanrehan, Savage, MN
Time: 6am
Bikes: Check
Breakfast: Honey Nut Cheerios, check
Beers: None (to early)
MORBID Members: Mikey, Pete

Pete & I hit Murphy this morning. We did two laps of the "Most Difficult" trail today. Our legs were hitting on all cylinders and we ended up doing about 18 miles. We got our first look at the new trail features at marker 63 which includes a couple rock jumps and a rock ride over the log. The new trail back by the log ride was looking pretty good. Still a little soft but once it gets more traffic it should be just as fast as the rest of the trail.

Murphy Trail Work & Ride

Pete & Mike did some trail work at Murphy-Hanrehan today. A couple trail areas were fixed and a new trail was opened located on the west side of the park next to the log ride. The new trail is located at marker 80 & 81 on the trail map.

After the trail work a ride was in order as Kris & Aimee joined the group for a ride. Pete & Mike conquered the up hill rock garden on the advanced loop. Aimee was triumphant up the steep hill switchback and Kris, well Kris made it through the trail in one piece on his bike. However we did have to make a couple emergency stops for Kris to put in chain back on and to bike back to his car to grab his keys off of the car roof.

Alcoholic beverages after the ride consisted of New Glarus I.P.A., Hometown Blonde and New Belgium 1554 Brussels style black ale.
