Guinness is Good For You!

From: BBC News

"A pint of the black stuff a day may work as well as an aspirin to prevent heart clots that raise the risk of heart attacks. Drinking lager does not yield the same benefits, experts from University of Wisconsin told a conference in the US."

Thanks to our favorite neighbors in Wisconsin for the research. You have to trust a school that has a Rathskeller in their Student Union, which by the way is an awesome place to spend a nice summer night.

"The researchers told a meeting of the American Heart Association in Orlando, Florida, that the most benefit they saw was from 24 fluid ounces of Guinness - just over a pint - taken at mealtimes."

Got to love the AHA for the research also! Guinness, it's for lunch, dinner, and breakfast!

Light Reading

Velo News + Rush River + Hamms Glass = Awesome

I picked up some Rush River The Unforgiven Amber Ale while doing our Holiday booze store run. About $200 lighter I arrived home and cracked one open. Poured it into my Hamm's glass I received as a gift a few years back from my lady. I also found my new copy of VeloNews in the mailbox upon my arrival. Flipped through it while downing the first bottle. Beer was good, VeloNews was a little flat, the glass was, like always, awesome.

Dead Trees

Since the lady had to hit the bookstore I decided to head along with and see what I could find to read over the X-Mas break. I knew I wanted to read Land of Amber Waters. It is about the history of beer in Minnesota. It is heavy, pretty, and has lots of words about beer. Can't wait to dig in farther than the preface and acknowledgments.

Beer and Bike Dead Trees

After flipping through all the euro-import bike mags I saw a lone copy of Mountain Flyer. I had never seen it before, it is a rocky mountain area cycling journal. Great pictures, articles about racing and riding out there and loaded with ads for handmade bikes. Totally worth checking out. I hope to follow up with reviews of both in the next few weeks, but so far, so good.

Gus's Specialized Stumpjumper

Gus says, "Heres a pic for the Bikes and Builds link on MORBID ,06 Stumpy Disc that I just bought from Zeus this fall, so he could get the Yeti."

Gus's Stumpjumper

As someone who likes to lookup bikes and see what they all came with I had to dig through the Specialized archives, here is a link to the details. Looks like it originally came with v-brakes, but was upgraded to Avid disc brakes later on. That blue sure is good looking!
