Six Hour Tour

Sunday, March 9th. Minnesota brewery taprooms closed. Fuck. Corey and I set our sites on Wisconsin. The land of Sunday beer sales. We planned on going to American Sky Brewery, Pitchfork Brewery and hit Casanova Liquors on the way back into MN. Dave’s Brewfarm was a lucky accident.

American Sky Brewery is located just off 94 close to the Fleet Farm in an industrial park. Very much like Jack Pine or Steel Toe. We walk in and the first thing you notice is the oval bar that has a liking of an airplane wing. American Sky’s theme is airplanes so this makes sense. The only thing between the taproom and the brewery were some ropes. Great atmosphere as you felt like you were in an airplane hanger which makes sense since they call their taproom ‘The Hanger’. Make sure to check their website for daily deals. Sunday was a fun day as we received free bacon and $2 off growler fills.

Beers drank

Corey – Hop Into Spring. A USA IPA

Corey – Taster of American Velvet Coffee Stout

Mike – Sneak Attack – Russian Imperial Stout

Mike – Cherry Blossom – Cherry infused amber ale (+growler to go)

All of the beers that we tried were solid.

Pitchfork Brewery is located at HWY 12 and 94 just on the eastern edge of Hudson. You can see the brewery from the HWY but it is camouflaged in a strip mall like building with other retailers. Pitchfork’s taproom felt like a little local bar with the taproom separated from the brewery. When you sit down you see CD’s across the bar. You then realize that these are the coasters for your beer. The taproom had a farm house feel to it with galvanized milking bucket lights hanging from the ceiling and unique little trinkets on the wall. For only being open for 7 months I felt they knew what they were doing.

Beers drank

Corey – Barn Door Brown Ale (+growler to go)

Mike – Big Bottom Honey Blonde

Mike – Taster Munich Dunkel (+growler to go)

All of the beers that we tried were solid.

We check Dave’s blog and he was open this weekend from 3-7PM. So we took an unexpected trip further east into Sconny. Some pro-tips on Dave’s Brewfarm. #1. Cash only. #2 Speed limit is 50MPH through Woodville on HWY12. Dave’s Brewfarm was just that. A farm. You park on the Wilson St. and make your way down a gravel driveway to a big white door that says ‘LaBrewatory Entrance’. The brewery/taproom felt like it was some kind of illegal┬áprohibition taproom. You can tell that the locals love this place. Even non-locals are locals at Dave’s Brewfarm. It felt like your were shooting the shit at your local corner bar but instead you are out in the middle of nowhere. There were easily a dozen beers to try. $5 a glass or take home a 1 liter bottle for $15. Again CASH ONLY! The beer was the best I have had in a long time. Check his hours on the blog and make the drive if you can. Dave said the taproom can really fill up in the summer.

Beers drank

Corey – Saison Du Nord

Mike – LeCran (+1 Liter to go)

Mike – Schwarzenheimer

We grabbed a couple growler fills and some Dogfish Head. Fun adventure into WI and I hope to do it again this summer.

Beer

I went over to the local boozemart for a little me time and what do I see? This pretty lady hanging out with all her friends.  I have been wanting to try Lolita for the past couple years. Grabbed two bottles, one for tonight and one to age. I have not been disappointed.

Beer

Brooklyn Brewery Monster Ale Barleywine born in 2011. Sweet smell to the beer. Very smooth taste. I like. Not usually a fan of Brooklyn’s beer but this one is a keeper.

2014 Catfish Angry Cold Carver Cup Lake Race Thing…

Another successful 2014 Cold Angry Cat Lake Fish Race on a mountain bike trail in Woodbury. Tallgrass was kind enough to supply us with beer and Potter’s Pasties with food. 5″ of snow fell the day before creating some fun conditions for the riders. It was also a toasty 36* degrees outside causing riders to shed clothing faster than Miley Cyrus. I took some pictures, drank some beer and bullshitted around.
